Mr. Barrow comes from a private sector background and has more than 25 years of experience in the management and financial services sector having worked for Standard Chartered Bank in the Gambia, the Middle East, India, and East Africa. He was a regional manager for banking operations-trade, cash (international and local payments), loans and commodities in East Africa in Standard Chartered Bank where he had oversight of 6 countries in the Eastern & Southern African Regions and led and grew business capabilities in these countries. Most recently, he held the position of Deputy Managing Director and Head of Operations at AGIB.
Before becoming the Regional Manager in Kenya, Yaya Barrow worked briefly in Standard Chartered bank India, Mumbai and in Afghanistan as Chief Information Officer where he had reporting lines to the head office in Dubai. Despite the high-security threats in Afghanistan he contributed to the bank’s achievement in profitability. This was preceded by a 14-year stint at Standard Chartered Bank Gambia.
Mr. Barrow is an AFGRAD Fellow and studied at the University of Tennessee Knoxville where he bagged a Master’s Degree in Public Administration specializing in Public Finance and B. Sc. in Business administration with double majors in finance and mathematics.
This short ceremony was held to formally welcome him into the big GNPC family, familiarize with the staff and get to hear his goals for the betterment of the corporation.
